Dana Costache met with the board of directors of Rafael Group in New York, while they were attending several events promoting business in Bulgaria. Soon after that, Rafael Group became a sponsor of the Eastern European Think and Act Tank, an event organized by Optim Communications in New York City, in April 2008.

Rafael Group is the largest company in Bulgaria of Cyprus origin and its group headquarters is located in Bourgas. Operating mainly in real estate and construction, Rafael Group also includes Rafael Wood Industries, which is a major exporter in Scandinavia, Italy and Cyprus. Another company of the group is Rafael Leisure and Entertainment, one that builds and owns hotels, restaurant franchises, multiplex cinemas and sports facilities.
